Research

Dr. Musabelliu was born in Albania, where she completed both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Psychology at the University of Tirana. As part of the first generation of psychology graduates in the country, she went on to serve as a lecturer in the Psychology Department at the University of Tirana for several years.

Between 2001 and 2011, Dr. Musabelliu represented school psychologists in Albania at international conferences, helping bring global recognition to the field of school psychology in her country. She also served as a member of the Ethics Committee at the International School Psychology Association (ISPA) for three years, where she contributed to the development of the International Ethics Code of School Psychology. In addition, Dr. Musabelliu authored short journal articles and contributed a book chapter on school psychology in Albania, published in The Handbook of International School Psychology (2007). She continues to advocate and help the development of school psychology in Albania and is passionate about providing school psychologists in Albania with the tools they need to succeed in their work.

After moving to Canada with her family, Dr. Musabelliu earned her doctoral degree in School and Clinical Child Psychology at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. She has since worked in a variety of settings, including the OISE Counselling and Psychoeducational Clinic, Surrey Place Centre, the Toronto Catholic District School Board, and several private practices in Toronto. She has also held academic roles as a teaching assistant and sessional lecturer at OISE, University of Toronto.

Dr. Musabelliu specializes in supporting the wellbeing of children, adolescents, and families. For over 10 years, she has worked with young people experiencing a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, ADHD, anger management, defiance, obsessive-compulsive disorder, low self-esteem, stress, and trauma. With extensive experience in school settings, she also helps families navigate the educational system and make informed decisions about school placements and programs.

Her approach to therapy is evidence-based and tailored to each client’s needs. She provides cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), and play therapy.

At ACMH, Dr. Musabelliu will contribute to research as well as the translation and validation of assessment measures into Albanian. She offers services in both English and Albanian.
